Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

DCD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that occurs in 5-8% of children and is often comorbid with other neurodevelopmental disorders. Recently, however, it has been suggested that DCD is not simply a comorbidity of these neurodevelopmental disorders, but that the development of sensory motor experiences and coordination in a fetus is an important basis for social communication in ASD and executive function in ADHD. In addition, various sensory and visuospatial processing issues in DCD, particularly in relation to learning, especially in mathematics, and functional brain imaging studies focusing on internal models and mirror neuron systems are becoming clearer.

This Special Issue of Children aims to draw on the current updates and future perspectives in DCD research, including the following topics: epidemiology, comorbidities (including ASD, ADHD, and dyslexia), functional brain imaging, other emerging technologies (eye tracking, wearable sensors), genetics, intervention approaches (CO-OP, VR, neurorehabilitation, robotics), and transition support into adolescence and adulthood.

In particular, DCD research with the potential to have important translational effects in clinical, rehabilitation and educational or school settings is welcome.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.
