Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Medical malpractice is a field of study that is gaining growing interest. Globally, the health profession is undergoing continuous changes that are also reflected in the doctor–patient relationship, which has changed profoundly in recent decades, leading to an increasing focus on events related to medical malpractice. This is also reflected in the increasing number of publications and studies on this subject throughout the scientific community. Mistakes in medicine are something that should not be hidden, but rather analysed and studied using scientific criteria to define their characteristics and recognise their causes and, from a risk management perspective, prevent their occurrence. Risk management is a topic that is inseparably connected with the analysis of medical malpractice, with the aim of ensuring care that is both effective and safe.

Considered this background, the purpose of this Special Issue is to promote research in the field of medical malpractice within all medical domains and risk management through the integration of various knowledge and experiences from different countries.

This Special Issue will consider a wide range of topics associated with medical malpractice, both according to the civil and criminal law and risk management applied to the prevention of clinical risk.

In this Special Issue, original research articles, and reviews of particular interest in the field of professional liability are welcomed.

Research areas may include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Civil liability of the healthcare professionals and liability of the hospitals;
  • Criminal liability;
  • Healthcare-associated risk management.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.

Prof. Dr. Luigi Tonino Marsella
Guest Editor
