Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In the rapidly evolving landscape of telecommunications, the advent of 5G and next-generation technologies marks a pivotal era in multimedia algorithms and services. This Special Issue, titled "Advancements in Multimedia Algorithms and Services: The Role of 5G and Next-Generation Technologies", aims to spotlight the symbiotic relationship between state-of-the-art multimedia processing techniques and the groundbreaking capabilities of 5G and beyond. This Special issue will feature cutting-edge research and innovative solutions that navigate the complexities of multimedia applications, from enhanced content delivery to real-time communication systems, immersive experiences, and algorithmic optimizations tailored to leverage the unprecedented speeds, low latency, and reliability of advanced telecommunications networks. We invite contributions that explore the full spectrum of advancements in multimedia services and algorithms, including, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Adaptive streaming and content delivery optimizations in 5G environments;
  • Real-time multimedia communication protocols and services;
  • Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences powered by high-speed networks;
  • AI and machine learning algorithms for multimedia content analysis and processing;
  • Network architecture and protocol enhancements for efficient multimedia transmission;
  • Security, privacy, and trust frameworks in multimedia services;
  • Quality of Experience (QoE) and Quality of Service (QoS) improvements in multimedia applications;
  • IoT and edge computing in multimedia content distribution and processing.

This Special Issue seeks to provide a comprehensive exploration of the latest research findings and emerging trends, offering invaluable insights for academics, researchers, and industry professionals involved in the multimedia and telecommunications sectors. We encourage submissions that not only address technological advancements but also consider the socio-technical implications and potential transformations in digital communication landscapes.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
