Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Functional coatings, such as self-healing coatings, superhydrophobic coatings, high-performance inhibiting coatings, and conducting polymer coatings, represent a series of new and highly promising anticorrosion coatings. These coatings demonstrate potential for the enhancement of corrosion resistance, as well as the ability to extend the lifespan of materials. This Special Issue aims to attract researchers from fields such as materials science, chemical engineering, and mechanical engineering, alongside other relevant fields, to share research findings and insights pertaining to the topic of smart and functional anticorrosion coatings. The aim of this Special Issue is to accelerate the development of smart and multifunctional anticorrosion coating technologies through scientific collaborations and the exchange of ideas, thus providing innovative and novel ideas and directions for future designs and applications of corrosion-resistant materials.

Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The design and fabrication of novel functional coatings, and the discussion of their fabrication processes and strategies for performance modulation;
  • Evaluation methods and standards for the performance of functional coatings, including corrosion resistance, high-temperature resistance, wear resistance, etc.;
  • Advances in the mechanical stability testing of functional coatings and the validation of innovative testing methods, which are more representative of the actual working and testing conditions than current methods;
  • Revealing the anticorrosion mechanisms of functional coatings through experimental research, simulation, and theoretical analysis;
  • The applications and prospects of functional coatings in various fields, such as aerospace, automotives, marine engineering, etc.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
