Biodiversity Loss & Dynamics

A section of Diversity (ISSN 1424-2818).

Section Information

Natural ecosystems are currently threatened by a range of impacts, from regional climate change to point-source pollution and everything in between—for example, habitat fragmentation or invasive species. One of the most visible effects of these impacts is the loss of taxonomic diversity, from the level of genes to species. This section will highlight studies that investigate these losses as well as their causes and consequences. However, to fully understand biodiversity loss and predict its impacts, fundamental research in the dynamics associated with these biodiversity patterns are both important and necessary. The following types of studies are also of interest to this section, so long as their connection to biodiversity loss is clear and explicit.
