Arts is the latest open access journal from MDPI and the first scholarly journal to house all the arts—decorative, fine, performing—under one roof. It is a journal without temporal or geographical boundaries that encourages innovative contributions to research that are succinct or lengthy, theoretical or historical, interdisciplinary or narrowly-focused. Individual articles on a broad range of topics will provide a stimulating forum for cross-disciplinary fertilization; special issues edited by leading scholars will provide deeper and more comprehensive insight into particular facets of the arts that are pertinent and timely.
Arts welcomes the submission of manuscripts from scholars around the world. Our Editorial Board, an international panel of leading scholars in all facets of the arts, is committed to ensuring a first-rate, cutting-edge journal through the implementation of a rigorous peer-review process. Once a manuscript is accepted, it can be prepared for online publication much faster than most print journal formats and does not require that an issue be “filled” before publication actually occurs. The online and open access format provides free access via the Internet to Arts’s peer-reviewed articles without subscription or price barriers. In addition, articles are immediately available in open access format, without “in press” delays. The full text of published articles can be queried and retrieved from all search engines, which means that published articles can be easily and quickly added to databases, resulting in higher visibility and possibly more citations for authors. The online and open access format will also strengthen communication and knowledge dissemination within and among organizations and countries that have had limited access to academic journals. Arts has the broad scientific backing and publishing expertise of MDPI, an international organization located in Basel, Switzerland, that has been publishing peer-reviewed, fully open access scholarly journals since 1996. All MDPI journals are included in Google Scholar and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). As is the case with most open access scholarly journals, obtaining permissions for copyrighted material such as images published in Arts is the responsibility of individual authors. In the event a contribution requires major copy-editing or formatting authors will be charged a modest fee. This is an exciting, interdisciplinary venture and we welcome your ideas for special issues.
