Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are glad to invite submissions of articles, in the form of original research or review papers, to a Special Issue of the journal Energies on the topic of “Aviation Biofuels”. Decarbonization of air transport will require the deployment of large amounts of sustainable biojets, which are expected to play the main role in aviation GHG emission reduction in the short- to medium-term. The production of bio-based jet is, however, a very challenging task, either in terms of process development, feedstocks, product specifications, and compliance with ASTM standards, necessary to operate commercial flights: all these issues require in-depth investigation on fuel, components and full-scale engine testing. Assessment of biofuel characteristics and results from analytical and experimental investigations determines the maximum possible level of blending with conventional fossil jets, so that not only the gas turbine, but the entire fuel line and its materials, are compatible with the new bio-components in all operational conditions (take-off and landing, cruise, taxing). Sustainability of biojets also have to be ensured through detailed assessments and certifications of the entire chain, so as to make biojet use eligible in accounting for GHG emission reduction. Scientific contributions in these areas are welcome, exploring new pathways to aviation biofuels, investigating the current status of technologies (gas turbines and related components), reporting on experimental testing on components and gas turbines, and assessing environmental and sustainability performances.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
