Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

To face societal, climate and nutritional challenges impairing food security and the global sustainability of the food chain, all activities have to be considered that are related to food production, processing and packaging, distribution and retailing, and final consumption as part of a complex system where each element interacts with the other.

Research has a key role in promoting scientific and technological advancements and knowledge that could allow the development of appropriate innovations in both product design and processing towards a more sustainable and innovative food system.

In this Special Issue, authors are invited to submit original research on:

(i) Advances on food processing (e.g., innovative and emerging technologies, food modelling and virtualization, packaging); (ii) new challenges to valorize traditional products and promote innovative food (e.g., food quality and safety, novel food functionalities, nutrition, health and food technology); and (iii) challenges of the food system approach (e.g., sustainable food production, food waste and by-products recovery and valorization, food of the future, organic food systems, life cycle management, process control and nondestructive monitoring methods).
