Special Issue Information

This Special Issue of Informatics welcomes submissions on the topic of “Graph-Based Methods for Visual Analysis of Large Scale Datasets”. Nowadays, networks or graphs are commonly used for data analysis. This enthusiasm is mostly due to the fact that graphs ease the analysis of relationships between entities. These relationships may be automatically computed by thresholding the so-called correlation matrix. Furthermore, these relations may evolve, leading to dynamic graphs or time stamped graphs. Graph analysis methods are, thus, good candidates to tackle the problem of heterogeneous data analysis, as well as the problem of dynamic data analysis. Applying graph-based visual analysis to a large-scale dataset is a challenge. First, the underlying graph is often too large to fit into memory and thus it must be distributed across several computers. That raises several problems of computational scalability of existing methods. Secondly, networks are too large compare to the resolution of existing screens and to the capability of the human perception system. This raises several problems regarding the perceptual scalability of existing methods.

This Special Issue aims at providing insight on the latest research advances in this field. We therefore encourage authors to submit their original articles that present novel techniques, evaluation of existing methods, innovative software solution, as well as reviews/surveys on any of the following topics (but is not limited to):
