Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Tidal energy is at the center of global efforts towards climate change mitigation. In the wake of the Paris climate conference (COP21) in December 2015, and the ensuing Treaty, the interest in promoting the large-scale penetration of tidal energy projects, which could contribute substantially to the reduction of carbon emissions, has become apparent.

While harvesting energy from tides is at a crucial stage of development, with some commercial projects, the tidal energy industry is still facing technical, financial, and environmental barriers, which prevent large-scale tidal energy uptake. The tidal sector has not achieved technology convergence, yet and there are still questions about the survivability of tidal energy converters. Additionally, the cost of tidal energy technology has to be reduced to attain grid parity. Another barrier to overcome is the environmental and socioeconomic impact of tidal energy projects, which need to be assessed under a consistent policy framework that could minimise the risk of project denial and increase the overall associated benefits.

This Special Issue solicits articles contributing to improve the body of knowledge of tidal energy. Studies can focus on the following aspects (but are not limited to them): Tidal energy technology, optimization of tidal farm layouts, economic assessments, economic optimization, and survival strategies for tidal devices.

I sincerely look forward to receiving high-quality, original and exciting contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Marine Science and Engineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
