Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Casting is an effective method for producing components in many industrial sectors, including automotive, aerospace, and other attractive industries. However, there are many challenges that come along with this manufacturing technique. If the quality of a melt is not properly controlled, then the result is defect-containing cast parts. Therefore, the performance of casting can be enhanced, primarily by the treatment of the melt, which can also significantly affect the solidification history of the part. Further improvements could be obtained via process control, alloy development, and numerical simulation.

There are several methods applied in foundry floor for the treatment of the melt. However, legal boundaries from various manufacturers and legislative organizations have enforced demands for better technologies. Recent trends in metal casting and the requirement for enhanced qualities suggest that additional developments are desired. Demands for answering the foundry concerns encourage researchers to offer a comprehensive outlook on the metal casting industry and to contribute extensively.

The aim of this Special Issue is to highlight recent innovations introduced in the fields of treatment of liquid metal and, from a wider perspective, on its relationship with cast properties. Scholars are thus encouraged to submit research papers dealing on specific aspects of treatment of molten metal or describing the response of metals and alloys by experimental techniques and/or modelling/numerical simulation. Submissions of works that correlate process parameters with final casting properties are strongly encouraged.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
