Effect and Pharmacokinetics Analysis of Anesthesia in Animal Surgery

Dear Colleagues,

Anesthesia is a state of controlled, temporary loss of awareness and elimination of pain that is induced for diagnostic or surgical purposes. A variety of anesthetic agents are available for surgery, and anesthetists routinely combine drugs such as analgesics, sedatives and anesthetics in the clinical practice. It remains a challenge to combine these drugs and choose administration techniques in order to reach and maintain optimal anesthetic conditions while minimizing side effects. The ideal anesthetic drug would provide hypnosis, amnesia, analgesia and muscle relaxation while preserving cardiac output and avoiding undesirable changes in blood pressure, pulse or breathing.

The effects of a drug result from a combination of its pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics in the individual. The knowledge of pharmacokinetic drug interactions in anesthesia can contribute to the optimization of the administration of multiple anesthetic drugs.

The aim of this Special Issue is to publish original research papers or reviews about the pharmacokinetic analysis of anesthesia in animal surgery.
