Dear Colleagues,
Outdoor lighting plays a significant role in our modern world, offering various benefits but also presenting challenges to sustainability. In recent years, outdoor lighting technologies have been undergoing a rapid transformation driven by advancements in energy efficiency, digital controls, and smart connectivity.
“Outdoor Lighting Innovations and the Sustainable Development Goals" is a Special Issue that explores the pivotal role of advanced outdoor lighting technologies and practices in contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This Special Issue invites theoretical and technical studies in the domain of innovative outdoor solutions that can have a positive impact on various aspects of sustainable development. Submitted manuscripts should address one or more of the following themes, although other relevant topics will also be considered:
- Smart lighting systems and urban sustainability;
- Light pollution and its mitigation;
- Community engagement and lighting design;
- Outdoor lighting and wellbeing;
- Energy-efficient lighting solutions;
- Economic and environmental impact assessment of outdoor lighting;
- Lighting sustainability metrics.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
