Comments and Suggestions for Authors

I have read the article and respectfully suggest the following recommendations to improve it and contribute to the literature on the topic addressed. In the introduction, I recommend including specific data or studies that illustrate the gap in ESG practices between Chinese and Western companies. In the methodology, it is vital to clearly outline the control variables included in the regression models and describe any robustness checks performed to validate the results. This will enhance the credibility of the findings. In the results section, I recommend providing a more thorough analysis of why certain firm characteristics (e.g., low political relevance) amplify the impact of GEIR. Finally, this is a great job regarding ESG. However, there are a couple of recent working papers related to your research that you should consider to enrich your literature review and align with the forefront of research in this area:

- García, F., González-Bueno, J., Guijarro, F., & Oliver, J. (2020). Forecasting the Environmental, Social, and Governance Rating of Firms by Using Corporate Financial Performance Variables: A Rough Set Approach. Sustainability, 12(8), 3324.

Giese, G., Lee, L. E., Melas, D., Nagy, Z., & Nishikawa, L. (2019). Foundations of ESG Investing: How ESG Affects Equity Valuation, Risk, and Performance. The Journal of Portfolio Management, 45(5), 69-83.
