Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report (Previous Reviewer 1)

With this new version, after review, some of my concerns are still there, mainly regarding the actual scientific contribution of the article. According to the authors: "The aim of this paper is to improve the VLAN for the 376 wireless network utilizing three ad hoc routing protocols such as AODV, DSR and OLSR". However, that objective cannot be considered a real scientific contribution in my opinion. It is just testing in a simulator what already exists.

However, the authors have made an effort to improve the paper, which I appreciate, and I guess the manuscript could be useful as well.

In any case, I really recommend that the authors revise the writing once again. Still some style issues are there. For example, the Abstract is now written in present + past format, which seems slightly incoherent. Please revise all tenses are correct along the text, and review for typos.

Author Response

thank you so much for your significant review information. the paper is revised as you required:

1- English writing had been improved

2- the research design had been improved and the conclusions had been supported by the results

3- the abstract, and most of the texts had been revised into past format as you require except the recommendation for the future work in the conclusion.

Author Response

thank you so much for your important review information.

some of the conclusion, methodology and results had been improved with the spell checking had been improved.

This manuscript is a resubmission of an earlier submission. The following is a list of the peer review reports and author responses from that submission.

Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The article evaluates the improvement in the use of VLAN in combination with ad-hoc routing protocols.

The paper is easy to read and follow. The references seem up to date.

Unfortunately, it is hard for me to find the actual contribution of the manuscript. It feels more like a short tutorial or demo, or even a conference paper, than a research article, because the tests performed are a bit limited (only simulated, with a specific type of network) and the research novelty delta is rather small too, in my opinion, a no new ideas are provided... Only some scenarios combining VLAN and ad hoc routing protocols are tested and conclusions provided.

In any case, I recommend that the authors answer the following questions to improve it:

- Why not testing with additional network scenarios to prove the actual conclusions are generalized to other types of networks?

- Why not including other WLAN routing protocols like the ones defined for constrained networks (RPL, AODVng)?

- Why not testing with other simulators, emulators or real testbeds to validate (even more) the conclusions?

- What is the actual contribution of your article, that is, what would you recommend future researchers to improve their results in this field?

- Do you think your results are reusable in any other field or network use case?
