Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper presents the method and the results of the students’ work in a design studio in China. The reference to a very similar paper in an Italian University could help you demonstrating the validity of your results (see https://doi.org/10.3390/buildings10090159). Methodology and results are very similar, despite the buildings to be analysed are different (a vernacular and a modern movement building). To realize a more interesting research, I suggest to explain better the structure of the design studio in China. The paper has not a specific novelty, as appear in this kind of paper. Thus, presenting it a a special issue in education could be interesting. I suggest to exploit more the results, focusing better on didactic and educational aspects. Please verify the link to the references, that are not working anymore. Also, some parts in funding, authors contribution, … are not filled in.

This is an interesting paper, which has tried to develop an architectural teaching program integrating the study of local climate, vernacular buildings, climate-responsive design strategies, and simulation tools. But some parts still need to be improved. Here are some specific comments.

1.     The paper title is too long, it should be more specific.

2.     The authors are encouraged to summarize the methodology section as well as illustrate the steps to aid the clarity of the paper. It would be better if combined with a diagram and visualizations.

3.     The Related Works part must be enriched by other works. A summary table can clearly improve this part. Synthesis at the end must be added to position the contribution of this work in relation to the existing one.

4.     Please improve the Conclusion section.

5.     The authors are encouraged to strengthen the references section to increase the scientific validity and the quality of the presented work. More details of the recent published articles and experiences should have been provided especially about climate- responsive design strategies and simulation tools.
