A Review of Modular Multilevel Converters for Stationary Applications
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
In this study the comprehensive review of modular multilevel monverters (MMC) was done. The paper present the basic knowlegde about MMC was presented.
The paper was well organized and pretty well written. The sections were logically conected. English language is rather good however I suggest to check the spelling and the grammar.
In the conclusions Section I suggest to describe the research gaps resulting from the presented review and possobilities of further research on this subject.
In section 5, the comparison and the simulation done, should be more clearly described, because it is hard to know why it was conducted and which parameters was investigated.
Below I present some minor points for improvement:
- figure 2 - in the caption of the figure the description of figures a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h should be inserted
- figure 3 - the same comment as for figure 2,
- line 205 - it is: "Control strategies are also proposed by Du et all". The reference source is missing. Please add.
- Figure 5 - the same comment as for figure 2,
- Please check if for all equations the reference sources were added,
- Figure 10 - the same comment as for figure 2,
- Please check if all symbols used in equations are defined in the text,

Reviewer 2 Report
The reviewed paper presents an interesting and comprehensive review of the modular multilevel converters dedicated to stationary applications. Particularly the MMCs are discussed concerning their topologies, mathematical modeling methods, control methods, modulation techniques, and power loses. The title of the manuscript is self-descriptive and represents the matter of the manuscript. The abstract provides a clear view of the content of the paper. The authors quite thoroughly presented the scientific and technological background of the investigated issues in the introduction section. The different MMC topologies are presented with a sufficient level of detail. The aspects of mathematical modeling and control of three-phase MMC have been thoroughly discussed as well as the MMC modulation techniques. The authors also analyzed the power losses and wideband gap technology. The conclusions constitute a summary of the presented review.
Therefore, I recommend to accept the paper and classify it as a review paper.
