Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear Editor,

The manuscript entitled “Broadband spectral shaping of regenerative amplification with 2 extra-cavity waveplate for cross polarized wave generation” reports on a new technique for broadening the spectral laser pulse shaping of a mJ laser system. The details of the technique and the results of the study are clearly presented and are to the benefit of researchers in laser technology and related applications in basic and applied research.  This work is suitable for and deserves publication in Applied Sciences. However, the manuscript suffers numerous grammatical and syntax errors that should be considered prior to the acceptance for publication. Below is my list of corrections.

In the whole manuscript:

Separate value from unit, i.e. 800 nm (not 800nm).

For microns use the Greek letter μ instead of “u”, i.e., μJ instead of uJ.

Abstract:

“We firstly demonstrated” should be “We  demonstrate”. Also remove “to the best of our knowledge”.

“which was put” should be “which was placed”.

Line 28. “which induces” should be “and thus”.

Line 43 and  Line 45 “the output” should be “and the output”.

Line 47 “the output spectra” should be “for the output spectra”.

Line 48. “We firstly demonstrated” should be  “We  demonstrate”.

Line 50. “of oscillator” should be “of the oscillator”.

Line 60. “is vertical” should be “in vertical”, and “of input” should be “of the input”.

Line 61. “surface, then” should be “surface. Then”.

Line 69. Do not start a new paragraph. Also ne and no should be in math mode as in Eqs. 1 and 2.

Line 76.  “of input” should be “of the input”.

Fig.1 caption. “angle 45o, and it is” should be “angle 45o. Notice that it is a”.

Line 86. “thick” should be “thickness”.

Line 87 and Line 130. “little” should be “small”.

Line 89. “was put at” should be “was placed at”.

Fig.2 caption. “with different” should be “for different”.

Fig.3 caption. “with different thick WPs” should be “for different thickness WPs”.

Line 101. “both” should be “for both”.

Line 104. “is put at the exit of oscillator” should be “is placed at the exit of the oscillator”.

Line 113. “With different rotation angles of the WP, the spectra were shown in Fig.5.” should be rephrased in “and are shown in Fig.5 for different rotation angles of the WP”.

Fig.7 caption. “with different” should be “for different”.

Line 132. “increases one round” should be “increases by one round”.  “keeps” should be “remains”.

Line 134. “keep same for whole days” should be “remain essentially unaffected for operation of days periods”.

Line 135. “A low energy” should be “A low energy beam”.

Line 149. “was shown” should be “is shown”.

Line 154. “system (a zero-order” should be “system, a zero-order”.

Line 181. “were shown” should be “are shown”.

Reviewer 2 Report

Comments are attached.

The authors investigated on extra-cavity broadband spectral shaping utilizing waveplate in XPM. The article will be interesting to the research community and I suggest that the paper is accepted for publication with some minor corrections as follows:
1. There are some English errors that should be improved. For example in the abstract line number 14 or line number 28, the sentence “… we firstly …” should be “we, for the first time …”
2. Explanation in section 2, Gain narrowing pre-compensating Method, is unclear. For instance, why do the authors optimize the thickness of the quarts? Is it based on the transmission spectra?
3. What is the corresponding dispersion parameters of the optimized quartz thickness?
4. In Fig. 5, the main oscillator BW is centered at about 800nm while after WP30 and 34 degrees shift to higher wavelengths. How the authors explain this shift?
5. In figure 6, the spectrum seems to be broadened by SPM. Please clarify.
6. In Fig. 7, how much is the power lost with WP 34°?
