Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1. Title: The title is too long. Authors should please convert some of the statements to standard acronyms in order to reduce the length of the title.

2. Introduction: OK with minor corrections as observed in the manuscript.

3. Methodology: OK, but reference is needed for some statements. eg citation is needed for the statement "The actual variable speed generator-motor  may have a slight negative sequence........." in line 209.

4. Results: OK, but figures'/graphs' titles need to be rephrased

5. Conclusion: OK

NB: Authors should follow the observations in the manuscript and effect the corrections for a good presentation of their work.

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper needs more work to further consideration. Following items should be significantly, and clearly addressed.

-          This work is very similar to recently published work by the authors, He, R.; Qiao, J.; Peng, Y.; Yin, X.; Wang, Y.; Zhang, H.; Wang, W. A Rotor Winding Internal Short-Circuit Fault Protection Method for Variable-Speed Pumped Storage Units. Appl. Sci. 2022, 12, 7783. https://doi.org/10.3390/app12157783. The advantages or benefits should be clarified.

-          The abstract should be completely revised focusing on the paper title and novelties. In current form it is similar to general scientific text.

-          Adding some quantitative results to abstract section is recommended.

-          Nomenclature section is needed inclusion the relent dimensions.

-          Avoid lumping references as in [x, y] and all other. Instead summarize the main contribution of each referenced paper in a separate sentence. For scientific and research papers, it is not necessary to give several references that say exactly the same. Anyway, that would be strange, since then what is innovative scientific contribution of referenced papers? For each issue state only one reference.

-          The Introduction section should be sensibly improved by presenting the application context, the open problems, and the relevant works. Now, it is weak

-          The main part of the literature review is regarded to DFIG protection. Instead focus on the paper title in literature review.

-          There are many equations without referencing and description. Should be completely addressed. Please note that they’re accessible easily from other references. What is your work novelty?

-          Eq. (7): it is written in ideal conditions. Not correct. Should be corrected based on real conditions.

-          Eq. (8): is written for normal operon condition. What is about the abnormal situations, such as faulty conditions?

-          The reference for “Table 1. The basic parameters of a variable-speed pumped storage unit” should be mentioned.

-          Line 185: Figure 2. This is a figure. Schemes follow the same formatting. Not clear.

-          Line 238: “Figure 3. When s is 0.01, the action value …”. Not clear.

-          Line 240: “Figure 4. When s is 0.1, the action value …”. Not clear.

-          Check and correct the figure titles.

-          More details of the algorithm complexity are required (i.e. computational burdens).

-          The obtained results should be compared with those obtained by applying other techniques in this field, in order to emphasize the benefits deriving by the application of the proposed algorithm.

-          Enrich the conclusion section, re-writing and adding a detailed and quantitative discussion.

Title: Rotor Winding Short Circuit Fault Protection Method of the Variable Speed Pumped Storage Generator-motor Combining the Stator and Rotor Currents with Different Frequencies

The paper needs quite a lot of improvements.

1. The novelty should be highlighted in the introduction.

2. The authored should explain if the proposed methodology can be generalized for all types of electrical machines, or if it is case specific.

3. Experimental verification is missing.

Reviewer 4 Report

This paper considers rotor winding short circuit fault of variable speed pumped storage 12 generator-motor.  The following suggestions should be addressed:

1.  The abstract of this paper is not suitable and clear.

2.  The main contribution and novelty of this paper should be collected.

3.  A more practical example and comparison should be considered.

4. The format of references is not correct.
