Point 1: Page 19 Line 726 “Figure 11” it must be Figure 10b.

Response 1: Thank you for your kindly reminder. We have adjusted pictures in the manuscript because of the copyright problem. This part of your point is not adjusted due to our negligence, and we have deleted it now.

Point 2: Page 2 line 47

“Engineering measurements include forest structure assessments [1-3], landslide surveillance [4-5] and 3D model reconstruction [6-9], which play a critical role in scientific and engineering research.”

Since the paper is a review and the applications of laser scanner data in engineering is too popular in recent years the references for the applications should be widen.

Response 2: Thank you for your introduction to these wonderful research work. We have already added these related references in the revised manuscript as References [4-10], [13-16], [21-25]. We included below a response to reviewer in which we address each comment made by the reviewer.

Point 1: Fig10: Give units for RMSE results.

Response 1: Thank you for your kindly reminder. The unit for RMSE results is mm, and we have added the unit—mm in Figure 10.

Point 2: Fig10: How did you get the initial registration?

Response 2: Thank you for your valuable comment. In reference [149],the initial registration is gotten through the geometric relationship between the contour line of the aircraft fuel tank and the sealed rivets.

Point 3: Fig10: How did you get the ground truth data?

Response 3: Thank you for your insightful comment. In reference [149], the ground truth of the raw scanned data is obtained by structured-light 3D scanner with laser tracker. Note that the experiment scene of the aircraft fuel tank is open, so we can acquire the ground truth by the combination of a structured-light 3D scanner and a laser tracker. Furthermore, we have added the relevant contents that marked in red in this manuscript.
