Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The contribution illustrates an interesting reflection on digital acquisition practices applied to the agricultural sector, taking into account, through a critical analysis, the nature of the protocol aimed at the process of data analysis for the promotion of sustainable development. The article appears clearly structured by making explicit the different contents through to a careful division into paragraphs. The bibliography appears acceptable with references both nationally and internationally, expansion and updating is suggested by citing contributions at the international level.

Reviewer 2 Report

Manuscript Number: applsci-1944026

Full Title: Construction of artificial forest point clouds by laser SLAM technology and estimation of carbon storage

 General COMMENT

The paper submitted to AS by Yonghua Xia et al. used laser SLAM technology to model an artificial forest in three dimensions and calculate the carbon storage of the tree species, in a case study in Kunming University of Science and Technology, Kunming, Yunnan, China.

The work is analyzed in original submission and is arranged in the following paragraphs: 1. Introduction, 2. SLAM technology 3D reconstruction, 3. Data acquisition and processing, 4. Estimation of carbon storage in plantation, 5. Conclusions.

 Specific COMMENT

First of all, the reviewer notes that the work was not first drafted in keeping with the journal's instructions to authors, which require: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, and so on. Despite this initial observation, however, this is a very interesting case study and subject analysis and the work is pleasant to read.

The topic is of considerable interest to the scientific community and in my opinion, the study is adequately original and the methodological approach is rigorous. The methods and tools are described with details to allow another researcher to reproduce the results. The results are interpreted in appropriate way and the data are robust enough to draw the conclusions.

However, there are some limitations that should be resolved by the authors, as reported in Technical and minor comment. In conclusion the work deserves publication after minor revisions, in my opinion. I will be available to authors for the assessment of the manuscript at the subsequent submission. Best regards.

Technical and minor COMMENT:

1.      read the authors' instructions and set up the paper according to the following scheme: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion (or Results and Discussion), Conclusions;

2.      line 39, please modify in italic font “strive to achieve carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060";

3.      line 65, I suggest the authors to insert here other case studies of using geomatic techniques, please see: DOI: 10.1029/2011JG001708, DOI: 10.3390/rs4061519, DOI:10.3390/ijgi11030168;

4.      line 96, please modify in Materials and Methods, for the reader;

5.      line 121, please define “LOAM”;

6.      line 142, please insert a figure in wich the case study is located, with coordinates in WGS84, for the readers;

7.      line 157, please modify figure 4, because is a low definition;

8.      line 225, please modify figure 10, because is a low definition;

9.      line 242, please modify figure 11, because is a low definition

10.  line 260, please insert here Result and discussion section.

Reviewer 3 Report

I think "UVA" is misspelled in the introduction.

In the first place where the abbreviation 'LOAM' is used, its open form should be written.
