Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The Manuscript ID applsci-2551598, titled “A hybrid vibration isolator based on elastomeric and electromagnetic restoring force” belongs to the field of Vibration Structure Isolators, subfield Design of Active Hybrid Isolators.

Concerning the scientific content of the paper

1.       In my opinion, the Abstract must be developed, emphasizing the novelty of the research work.

2.       The Introduction must be consistent, and reading the manuscript, in my opinion, this goal was not achieved. The References must be enriched, such a research subject cannot be developed only with 14 references!!!!

3.       After paragraph 6 it follows paragraph 8. Why???

4.       Normally, the newly obtained theoretical and experimental results must be compared with the results obtained by other researchers in the same field.  I didn’t remark on this aspect in any paragraph.

5.       The article must be reorganized, containing at least one paragraph titled “ Results and Discussions.

6.       After paragraph “ 8. Transmissibility” it follows paragraph “8. Conclusions”. Why???

7.       The paragraphs must be correctly renumbered.

8.       The paragraph “Conclusions” must highlight better the novelty of the new “hybrid vibration isolator based on elastomeric and electromagnetic restoring force”.

About the presentation of the paper concerning the Manuscript Type MDPI journal template

1.       The References don’t respect 100%  the form demanded by the Manuscript Type MDPI journal template.

For the aspects mentioned above, I strongly advise a major revision of the paper.

Review of the manuscript by Renato Brancati et al.

Title: A Hybrid Vibration Isolator based on Elastomeric and Electromagnetic Restoring Force

Journal: Applsci-2551598

GENERAL COMMENTS:

The manuscript addresses the important problem of protecting structures and machines from ground vibrations originating from diverse sources. The proposed hybrid isolator, combining elastomeric pads and an electromagnetic actuator, is a promising approach to tackle the challenges faced by passive isolation systems due to unknown frequencies. The paper presents an analytical model for the restoring force of the isolator, which is validated through experiments and simulations. The paper exhibits considerable potential for publication in Applied Sciences, given necessary revisions. Several major and minor comments are provided as follows.

MAJOR COMMENTS:

1. The Introduction section requires significant improvement in terms of organization, precision, and relevance to the paper's objectives. The authors should offer a coherent analysis of the current state of the art by connecting the cited works and emphasizing their theoretical and applied contributions. Clearly elucidate the motivation behind the paper and address how it bridges gaps or addresses limitations in existing literature. Additionally, provide critical evaluations of other studies' strengths and weaknesses while explaining how the current approach complements or advances prior research.

2. The methodology section should elaborate on the process of determining the values of stiffness and damping coefficients, considering the numerous parameters in the model. Provide a detailed explanation of the chosen approach for parameter estimation, along with justifications for its appropriateness and accuracy.

3. The rationale behind selecting a particular method to solve the equation needs clarification. The authors should discuss the advantages and suitability of their chosen method over alternative approaches to showcase its efficacy in accurately addressing the problem at hand.

4. The inconsistent computed results from theoretical analysis and experimental research warrant further investigation and explanation. The author should provide additional discussions and potential reasons for the discrepancies observed, focusing on enhancing the reliability of the proposed model.

5. The conclusion section lacks precision, as some presented conclusions deviate from the research findings. The authors should reevaluate and restate the key outcomes, ensuring they align with the results obtained in the study.

MINOR COMMENTS:

6. The presentation of the author's arguments exhibits disjointedness and lacks coherence, impacting the overall flow of the content. Revising the writing style and connecting ideas more smoothly will significantly enhance the manuscript's readability.

7. I recommend the inclusion of additional references from relevant sources to bolster the paper's credibility and provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of the topic.

In conclusion, with substantial revisions addressing the major comments and incorporating the suggested improvements, the manuscript has the potential to meet the high-quality standards of Applied Sciences and merits consideration for publication.

Minor editing of English language required

Comments and Suggestions for Authors-Round 2

The Manuscript ID applsci-2551598, titled “A hybrid vibration isolator based on elastomeric and electromagnetic restoring force” belongs to the field of Vibration Structure Isolators, subfield Design of Active Hybrid Isolators.

Concerning the scientific content of the paper

1.       The authors made the necessary modifications to the points 1-3 and 5-8.

2.   Still, they didn’t make any modification concerning the point

“4.       Normally, the newly obtained theoretical and experimental results must be compared with the results obtained by other researchers in the same field.  I didn’t remark on this aspect in any paragraph.”

About the presentation of the paper concerning the Manuscript Type MDPI journal template

1.       The modified form of the manuscript respects the form demanded by the Manuscript Type MDPI journal template.

For the aspects mentioned above, I advise a minor revision of the paper that includes suggestion 2(Round 2).
