Evolution of the Growth of a Micro-Nano Crystalline Diamond Film on an Axial Carbide Tool Model in Microwave Plasma
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
1. MP CVD should be the abbreviation of microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition. Moreover, the meaning of abbreviations should be given on their first appearance, Such as MV.
2. There are two many keywords, five keywords are enough. Adhesion should not be chosen, there is not any discussion about adhesion of the coating.
3. The meaning of 1,2,3 in Figure 1(a) should be given. The data and information in Fig.1 (b), (c) and (d) can not be seen, which should be improved.
4. How to get the average grain size of the diamond film at the different sites, only using SEM image should be not enough.
5. The data deviations in table 3 should be given.
6. The feasibility and usability of the model should be discussed, does it only fit for the axial carbide tool?

This manuscript describes the procedure for coating Co alloy and molybdenum substrates using microwave plasma techniques. In addition to the experimental section, the authors also performed heat transport modelling for the coating’s thermal response. The manuscript, therefore, is attractive to the coating community and can be published subject to the following revisions:
The software and the settings used in section 3.1 should be mentioned. The authors mention that ANSYS was used for the results presented in Figure 6. However, it is unclear if this is the case for prior data too.
In the microscopy images of Figures 11 and 13, can the authors speculate any preferred or dominant growth facet?
The authors should consider adding these citations to broaden the arguments presented in the introduction:
On how the substrate can influence diamond’s growth pattern:

On diamond’s preferred growth facets affecting functional properties:

Moderate polishing is required.
