Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors presented Secondary flow in smooth and rough turbulent

circular pipes: turbulence kinetic energy budgets. I think the manuscript can be accepted after following minor points should be addressed which will not only improve the quality of paper but also attract more readerships for journal. These points for revision are given below:

1- Introduction should be more concise

2- References should be updated

3- It is more convenient to make a comparison of current study with other related studies in literature

4-The language of the manuscript should be improved before publication.

Author Response

Thanks for the nice comments confirming that our work is of interest, therefore we are extending the simulations at higher values of Reynolds number.

1. The introduction has been shortened.
2. References have been updated.
3. Unfortunately, there are no studies available in the literature which we could compare with, as the concept of secondary motions in ducts with circular cross section is not yet established.
4. We have improved the language as much as possible.

Reviewer 2 Report

Overall the paper is well explained how they conducted the study. The organization of the paper is also well documented. Keywords of abstract need to add such as DNS is one of the key points of this study. The method in the abstract needs a detailed explanation of how the numerical is conducted.

Author Response

Thanks for the nice comments confirming that our work is of interest, therefore we are extending the simulations at higher values of Reynolds number.

The sentence
"The numerical method, based on second-order finite discretization together with the immersed-boundary technique, was validated and applied to various types of flows." has been inserted in the abstract. Keywords have been added.

Reviewer 3 Report

The work is well-presented. Particularly, the introduction part provides readers a lot of information, which is very helpful for one to understand the work. The result is interesting and well-illustrated, and should provide useful information for the research group! I recommend the publication of the work in current form!
