One year ago, we began the adventure of editing
Compounds (ISSN 2673-6918), a journal devoted to the synthesis, characterization, and properties of compounds, as well as their reactivity from both a theoretical and experimental point of view [
1]. The scope of our journal includes, but is not limited to, the synthesis, characterization, and properties of organic and inorganic compounds; natural products, physical inorganic/organic chemistry, and solid-state chemistry; catalysis; co-ordination chemistry; organometallic chemistry, intermetallic compounds, metallic materials, and alloys, and rare earth compounds; materials; nanoscale chemistry; energy and photochemistry. Additionally, manuscripts about theory and computation, simulation, and modeling are welcome.
During this year, we have published eight research articles, two short communications, four review articles, and one editorial article in three issues (June, September, and December). These contributions came from researchers working for institutions in China, Croatia, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Spain, and Tunisia.
On the other hand, we have released several Special Issues that, together with “Feature Papers in Compounds”, are devoted to “Structured Supports and Catalysts: Design, Preparation, and Applications”, “Photocatalysts for Organic and Polymer Synthesis”, and “Chemical Reactivity in Microheterogeneous Media”, to which the authors can still make contributions during the first quarter of the year 2022.
Compounds is covered by the indexing and abstract services China Academic Journals (CNKI) and J-Gate. It also appears in the directory of journals Sherpa Romeo. Furthermore, since digital preservation is essential for the dissemination of research results, Compounds can be found on the CLOCKSS and Helveticat (Swiss National Library) digital preservation portals. Finally, it is included within content aggregators, such as Google Scholar and WorldCat. We hope to incorporate our journal into new databases, indexers, and archives.
During its first year of life, the abstracts of the articles published in Compounds have been read more than 9100 times, and the full-text articles have been downloaded 8900 times. These data come from the metrics of the articles on the MPDI editorial platform, where multiple requests from the same IP address are counted as one read/download. Finally, the articles that we have published already have citations based on the Crossref results.
Regarding the scientific team that supports this journal, there are 58 members on the “Editorial Board”, while the “Topical Advisory Panel” and the “Review Board” are made up of 18 and 12 researchers, respectively. It is also important to thank all the researchers who have collaborated in the peer-review processes of the articles; without the collaboration of these researchers, this would not have been possible.
After birth, it is important to grow strong. Our ultimate goal continues to be to turn Compounds into a high-quality journal for the benefit of the scientific community, turning it into a forum on which we can debate and disseminate the new horizons of chemistry. This is why, from this editorial article and on behalf of the Editorial Committee, and on my own, as the Editor-in-Chief, I invite the scientific community to continue trusting in Compounds to spread their achievements in chemistry, and this is also why scientific articles, brief communications, review articles, and letters are welcome. Obviously, we are also open to proposals for the publication of Special Issues dedicated to topics that align with the scope of Compounds.
