Computation | New Section Established and Aims and Scope Updated


The editorial team of Computation (ISSN: 2079-3197) is pleased to announce the launch of a new Section, “Computational Social Science”.

The “Computational Social Science” Section accepts all articles and reviews related to the application of computational methods to social sciences, including sociology, economics, business, political science, psychology, linguistics, and other disciplines. It will showcase cutting-edge research in computational intelligence and advanced techniques used to address pivotal challenges within social science. We welcome high-quality empirical and theoretical contributions highlighting recent advancements and innovative applications in this dynamic interdisciplinary domain.

Its main scope includes, but is not limited to, economic modeling, risk management, business decision making, epidemic modeling, sociological models, social media and complex social network analyses, the modeling of complex social structures, natural language processing, etc.

We are currently recruiting Editorial Board Members (EBMs) and Guest Editors for this new Section. If you are an active researcher in this field and are passionate about publishing cutting-edge research, please contact us at [email protected].

Simultaneously, we have updated the aims and scope of Computation. The new and old versions are as follows:

Aims (old version):

Computation (ISSN 2079-3197) is a computational science and engineering journal. It publishes reviews, regular research papers, and communications, with no restriction on the maximum length of these papers. Our aim is to encourage scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical research in as much detail as possible. Full experimental and/or methodical details must be provided for research articles. There are, in addition, unique features to this journal:

  • Manuscripts regarding research proposals and research ideas are particularly welcome;
  • Computed data or files regarding the full details of an experimental procedure, if unable to be published within an article, can be included as supplementary material;
  • We believe that manuscripts that are summaries and surveys of cooperative research and projects (that are founded by national governments or others) provide information for a broad field of users.

Scope (old version):

  • Computational biology, including, but not limited to:
    • Bioinformatics;
    • The mathematical modeling, simulation, and prediction of nucleic acid (DNA/RNA) and protein sequences, structures, and functions;
    • The mathematical modeling of pathways and genetic interactions;
    • Neuroscience computation including neural modeling, brain theory, and neural networks.
  • Computational chemistry, including, but not limited to:
    • New theories and methodology, including their applications in molecular dynamics;
    • The computation of electronic structure;
    • Density functional theory;
    • The design and characterization of materials using computational methods.
  • Computation in engineering, including, but not limited to:
    • New theories, methodologies, and the application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD);
    • Optimization techniques and/or the application of optimization to multidisciplinary systems;
    • System identification and the reduced order modeling of engineering systems;
    • Parallel algorithms and high-performance computing in engineering.

Computation (ISSN: 2079-3197) is an international open access journal about computational science and engineering. It focuses on publishing regular research papers and reviews.

The aim of Computation is to encourage scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical research in as much detail as possible. There is no restriction on the maximum length of our papers. Full experimental details should be provided so that the results can be reproduced.

There are, in addition, unique features to this journal:

  • manuscripts regarding research proposals and research ideas will be particularly welcomed;
  • computed data or files regarding the full details of the experimental procedure, if unable to be published in a normal way, can be deposited as supplementary material;
  • manuscripts concerning summaries and surveys on research cooperation and projects (that are founded by national governments or others) provide information for a broad field of users.
