Hugo Alexandre Ferreira has a Ph.D. in physics, in the field of nanotechnologies applied to biomedicine. Based on his Ph.D., he founded Haloris Nanotechnologies, a company that developed nanotechnological biosensors for in vitro diagnostics. Currently, he is an associate professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, Portugal. At the Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering, he leads research in neuroscience (applied in health and disease, sports, and marketing), oncology, cardiovascular diseases, digital health, and physiological computing (including brain–computer interfaces), using processing and analysis of medical images and signals and tools from data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning, virtual and augmented realities, and blockchain. His research has spun several spin-offs, of which he is a founder, holding C-level or advisory positions.
