Author Biographies

Dr. Thierry Coppola is currently affiliated with Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), Université Côte d’Azur. He completed his Ph.D. studies in Prof. Michel Lazdunski’s lab, working on the molecular characterization of voltage-dependent calcium channels. He was a post-doctoral fellow under Prof. Cameron Gundersen at UCLA Dept of Pharmacology, working on Cysteine String Protein (CSP), a chaperone protein associated with synaptic vesicles. He has focused his research on neurotransmitter and insulin secretion machinery. His interests include neurotensin, beta cell insulin-secreting cells, G-protein- coupled receptors, sortilin, receptors, insulin secretion, calcium signaling, potassium channel blockers, exocytosis, and islets of Langerhans.

Dr. Nicolas Blondeau is the Research Director at the CNRS, located in France. He has long-lasting and recognized expertise in the science of stroke and the search for new treatments, with strong links with national and international networks, especially as the Secretary of the International Society for Blood Flow & Metabolism—a predominant international society in the stroke/brain ischemia field. He has also served on several journal editorial boards and research advisory panels, including those of the E.U. Commission, French ANR, Swiss National Science Foundation, NSC Poland, MIUR Italy, and TIBITAK Turkey. He has developed strong experience with issues related to the neuroprotective moiety itself and its contribution to clinical trial failures—which include late delivery, mono-targeting, low potency and poor tolerability—establishing a new concept in the field that neurons could be preconditioned/protected by nutraceuticals that are gaining increasing attention, especially in the PharmaNutrition field, as potential approaches to protect the brain.
