Qing-Xiang Amy Sang, Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, earned her B.S. degree in Biological Sciences from Hunan Normal University, China, in 1984. From 1984 to 1986, she attended graduate school at the Xiamen University in China. In 1986, she received a fellowship from Georgetown University to attend graduate school. She earned a Ph.D. degree in Cell Biology and Anatomy from Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, DC, USA in 1990. She conducted her postdoctoral research training in chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biophysics at the Florida State University (FSU) until in 1993. In 1992 she received a National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and an NIH Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship, and in 1998 she received a NIH FIRST award. In 1993, she became an assistant scholar scientist at FSU. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1996. She was hired as a tenure-track assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry at FSU in 1997, was promoted to tenured associate professor in 2003, and became a full professor in 2008. She has been awarded an Endowed Chair Professorship in Cancer Research since 2012 and became an Elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2017. Her research specialties are Biochemistry, Bioanalytical Chemistry, Chemical Biology, and Molecular Cell Biology.
