Daniela Sapienza is a Full Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Dental Sciences and Morphofunctional Imaging, Section of Legal Medicine, University of Messina. Dr. Sapienza obtained a Ph.D. in Forensic Medicine at the University of Messina in 2007. Dr. Sapienza's research interests include legal medicine, forensic science, forensic DNA typing, occupational medicine and biological damage.
Antonio Ieni is a Professor in the Department of Human Pathology in Adult and Developmental Age "Gaetano Barresi", Section of Pathology, University of Messina. He obtained his degree in Medicine and
Surgery from the University of Messina (October 2000). He specialized in Anatomic Pathology at the University of Messina (November 2005). He obtained his Ph.D. in Oncology from the University of Messina in 2012. His main fields of activity include pathology, oncology, immunohistochemistry, HER2,
gastrointestinal disease, breast carcinomas, and predictive and prognostic biomarkers.
Prof. Antonino Germanà is a Full Professor of Domestic Animal Anatomy in the Department of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Messina. He graduated from the Department of Veterinary Medicine, the University of Messina, in February 1998. He won a scholarship in 1998 from the Bonino-Pulejo Foundation. He holds a Ph.D. in "Morphology of Fish and Bird Species". He attended the Departamento de Morfologia y Biologia Celular Facultad de Medicina Universidad de Oviedo (Spain) as a Ph.D. student (24 months) and as a Visiting Professor at the Laboratory of Sensory Neuroscience, Rockefeller University, New York, USA. He is a member of national and international scientific societies including the Italian Association of Veterinary Morphologists (AIMV) and the European Association of Veterinary Anatomists (EAVA). He is part of the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Anatomy section Peripheral Nervous System & Clinical Experimental Immunology, Acta Histochemica. He is a referee of numerous international journals such as BMC in Neuroscience, Neuroscience Letters, Brain Research, and Brain Research Bulletin.
Maria Cristina Guerrera has been an Associate Professor in the anatomy of domestic animals since 2014 in the Department of Veterinary Sciences, University of Messina. Prof. Guerrera is an expert in fish and marine biotechnology research with a special focus on the use of zebrafish as an experimental model in biomedical research. After receiving a degree in Veterinary Medicine (110/110 cum laude) at the University of Messina (2002), she obtained her PhD in “Marine Environmental Health, Food Safety, Fish Pathology and Fishing Hygienic Quality" (Cycle XIX) at the University of Messina in 2007 and completed a postdoc in "Morphology of Birds and Fish" (2007–2009). She also specializes in "biotechnology applied to mariculture” and in “inspection of food of animal origin”. Prof. Guerrera has been a member of the Teaching Board of the Research Doctorate in "Veterinary Science” and a member of the Italian Association of Veterinary Morphologists (A.M.V.) since 2009.
Alessio Asmundo is a professor at the University of Messina. He enrolled in the degree course in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Messina in 1978. He obtained a specialization in legal and insurance medicine with full marks and honors at the University of Palermo in 1989. From 1991 to 2001, he worked at the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the University of Messina as a technical collaborator. Since 2001, he has been a confirmed researcher and from 2006 to 2007, he was an adjunct professor at the Forensic Medicine section of the Department of Territorial Social Medicine, University of Messina. He was the Director of the School of Specialization in Forensic Medicine at the University of Messina from 2021 to 2022. He is a member of the Group of Italian Forensic Geneticists (GeFI) and a member of the Board of Directors. He was the organizer of the 21st National Conference (Lipari, 5–7 September 2006). He is a member of the International Society of Forensic Genetics (ISFG), the Group of Italian Forensic Pathologists (GIPF) and the Interdisciplinary Group for the Study of Iatrogenic Damage (GISDI).
Prof. Dr. Patrizia Gualniera is a Professor in the Department of Human Pathology in Adult and Developmental Age "Gaetano Barresi" at the University of Messina, Italy. Prof. Dr. Patrizia Gualniera obtained a PhD in Forensic Biological Sciences in 1987. Prof. Dr. Patrizia is also a member of the Medical Association of the province of Messina.
Cristina Mondello has been a Researcher in Legal Medicine in the Department of Biomedical and Dental Sciences and Morphofunctional Imaging, University of Messina, since 2019. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Medical and Surgical Biotechnology from the University of Messina in October 2019. His research areas include forensic medicine; forensic pathology; sudden cardiac death; effects of the death process on regulatory systems of stress response; evolution of Italian laws on medical liability; and effects of the Italian Hospital Management Committee on clinical risk management, prevention of civil action and public costs reduction.
