Mahesh Thirunavukkarasu is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Department of Surgery, Molecular Cardiology and Angiogenesis Laboratory, University of Connecticut Health Center. He received his B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry from the University of Madras and his M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry from Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar. He finished his Postdoctoral training at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Dr. Thirunavukkarasu, focuses on cardiac repair and regeneration of aging and diabetic hearts. He has more than 55 publications in peer reviewed journal.

Nilanjana Maulik is a Professor of Molecular Cardiology and heading the Angiogenesis Laboratory at the Department of Surgery, UConn Health, Farmington, Connecticut. She received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry in December 1990 from Calcutta University, India. After completing her Ph.D., she joined the Department of Surgery at UConn Health as a research fellow and continued as a faculty where now she serves as a Tenured Professor. She is also a member of several prestigious societies, such as FASEB, AHA, ISHR, American College of Nutrition (ACN), and International College of Angiology (ICA). She was a member of the Myocardial Ischemia Metabolism (MIM) study section of NIH for the last 6 years and of the NHLBI Program Project Review Committee. Presently, she serves as a reviewer of several special emphasis panel study sections of NIH. She is also a reviewer of the AHA Grant review process. She is on several Editorial boards of major cardiovascular journals. She is an associate editor of the Molecular Cellular Biochemistry journal. She is a recipient of several prestigious awards including the Faculty Recognition Award from the University of Connecticut Health Center. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanism of myocardial angiogenesis in the diseased/infarcted heart, ischemia/reperfusion injury, apoptosis, and the development of cardioprotective strategies which include gene, stem cell and engineered microvesicle therapy.Dr Maulik has more than 200 manuscripts
