Prof. Dr. António A.L.S. Duarte is a civil engineer, who obtained his Graduation in 1984, from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). He completed his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Hydraulics and Environment) in 2006 at the University of Minho, in Braga, Portugal. He is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Minho (DEC-UM) and a Researcher at CTAC—Centro of Territory, Environment and Construction (integrated member) and at IB-S—Institute of Science and Innovation for Bio-Sustainability (collaborating member). In the period 2017–2002, he was Director of the Master Course in Sustainable Management of the Urban Water Cycle (GESCUA) and a member of the Coordinating Committee of DEC-UM. In the period 2011–2015, he was a member of the Steering Committee of the Integrated Master's Course in Civil Engineering (MIEC) at the University of Minho and of the Master's Course in Urban Engineering (2009–2011). He is a member of the Editorial Board of some national and international journals linked to the water sector. He develops his research activity in the fields of Environmental Hydraulics and Public Health Engineering, with expertise area in advanced water treatment (supply and urban wastewater), risk assessment for human health, eutrophication, and hydraulic networks vulnerability assessment.
