Angie Lizeth Buitrago Pabón obtained a degree in biotechnology engineering from Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander in Cúcuta city, Colombia, in 2015. During her
undergraduate studies, she distinguished herself through her research at the Centro de Investigacion en Biotecnología Aplicada (CIBA) in Mexico, where she was acknowledged with a meritorious thesis for her research on the expression of recombinant proteins for the development of subunit vaccines against avian influenza virus. Subsequently, she earned an M.Sc. in Biomedicine and Molecular Biotechnology from the Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biologicas at the Instituto Politecnico Nacional (IPN) in Mexico City, Mexico, in 2018. During her master's program, her thesis, which obtained an honorable mention, focused on the design of plasmids and recombinant proteins, incorporating an innovative approach that utilized advanced immunoinformatics techniques for the development of next-generation vaccines against the Zika virus. Currently, she is in the final phase of her doctoral studies within the same academic program. Furthermore, since the year 2022, she has been serving as an analyst in the Plant Quarantine Laboratory at the Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario (ICA), where she engages in epidemiological surveillance tasks to prevent the entry of quarantine diseases and/or pests into the country. This role involves the early detection of these diseases through the utilization of advanced molecular biology techniques.
