Dr. Edgardo Szyld is now a Professor of Pediatrics at
Indiana University. He received his MD degree in perinatal medicine from the
University of Buenos Aires in 1981 and his MSc degree in Clinical trials from
the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2013. From 2013 to 2022,
he was an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Preventive Medicine, Icahn
School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. From 2015 to 2023, he was a Professor of
Research at the Department of Pediatrics, OUHSC. His interests include Neonatology,
Neonatal Medicine, Systematic Reviews, Phase III Clinical Trials, Clinical
Trials in Pediatrics, Epidemiology and Public Health, and Neonatal
Resuscitation.
As a board-certified pediatrician with a training in neonatology (Brown University), quantitative methods (Rutgers' School of Public Health) and strategic healthcare management (Rutgers' Business School) and passion for improving perinatal resuscitation (science, training, practice & delivery) as well as the outcomes and quality of life of preterm and sick newborns, Dr. Birju Shah systematically evaluates the human and system performance of newborn care in order to understand and identify potential modifiable factors for targeted interventions. Having over a decade of experience as an academic neonatologist at regional tertiary care centers, Dr. Shah dedicates his time to investigating and developing innovative strategies and tools for the complex challenges faced by neonates and their families as well as frontline healthcare providers and systems. His interests include clinical trials, evidence synthesis, and developing an educational curriculum in neonatal resuscitation in efforts to decrease neonatal mortality.
