Dr. Kabilan Velliyagounder is a Research Teaching Specialist and Research Associate at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. He is also an Assistant Professor at Rutgers Biomedical Health Sciences-RSDM. He received his Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Madras in 1996 and served as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Biochemistry at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) from 1996 to 1997. His research focuses on the antimicrobial effect of human lactoferrin against various oral microbes.

Dr. Kenneth Markowitz is an Associate Professor at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. He received his doctorate in dentistry from Columbia University in 1985. His research interests are the conditions that affect the dental hard tissues. Dr. Kenneth Markowitz has acted as a clinical investigator on several NIH and industry-supported studies and the dental clinical investigator for the Newark site of the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort study. He also collaborated with investigators at Rutgers’s Ecology, Evolution, and Natural Resources Department in New Brunswick on comparing the contemporary oral microbiome with historical calculus samples.
