Author Biographies

Laura Murphy is a current PhD student researcher with the BiOrbic Bioeconomy Research Centre investigating processes to support the circular bioeconomy, working on introducing more sustainable bioprocesses to replace or improve the current state-of-the-art focusing on yeast fermentations. She completed her MSc. in Biotherapeutics at UCD in 2021.
Ciara Lynch is a current postdoctoral researcher with the BiOrbic Bioeconomy Research Centre investigating processes to support the circular bioeconomy, working on introducing more sustainable bioprocesses to replace or improve the current state-of-the-art. She completed her PhD in Biotechnology in 2023 at University College Dublin with a project on waste valorisation of spent media from various bioprocesses. She is a current member of the Biochemistry Society and lives and works in Dublin, Ireland.
David J. O’Connell has been an Associate Professor at the School of Biomolecular & Biomedical Science at University College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland, since 2013. He is a research scientist who is deeply fascinated by the behaviour of proteins in cells, in living systems and in recombinant engineered systems. He is also a Science Foundation Ireland-funded investigator with BEACON, the Bioeconomy Research Centre. He obtained a PhD from University College Dublin. He has patents granted in the EU (European Patent No. 2800757) and USA (US Patent No. 9676872) in novel protein engineering technology for the study and production of high-value proteins. He is a specialist in proteomic technologies, e.g., LC-MS/MS and array-based proteomics, and has significant expertise in biophysical measurements of protein interaction with antibodies, small molecules and other proteins, e.g., surface plasmon resonance, ITC and MST. His research interest mainly focuses on the behaviour of proteins.
