Dr. Giada Varra works as an Assistant Professor at the Engineering Department, "Parthenope" University of Naples, Italy. She obtained a BSc degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering (2015), a MSc degree in Civil Engineering (2017), and a PhD degree in Environmental Phenomena and Risks (2021) from "Parthenope" University of Naples.
She is currently involved in a research project with the Italian national railway company "Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane" and the University of the West of England (Bristol, UK) to develop methodologies aimed at enhancing the resilience of railway networks against flooding and debris flow events. Her research activities mainly focus on the mathematical and numerical modelling of flood phenomena for flood hazard and risk assessment, and the analysis of water interaction with hydraulic structures. Her interests include: flood hazard and risk assessment; urban flooding; hydrological and hydraulic modelling; geo-hydrological hazards; hydroinformatics; weather extremes; flood resilience and adaptation; shallow water equations; hydraulic structures.
