Makungu Madirisha is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of South Africa, within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Building Science, and concurrently holds a position as a Chemistry Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Madirisha is a dynamic chemist who stands at the forefront of integrating sustainable practices into the fields of oil and gas, and geothermal chemistry, with a strong emphasis on circular chemistry. His impactful research focuses on environmentally friendly solutions such as geopolymers for wellbore cementing, innovative water-based drilling fluids, and techniques for enhanced oil recovery and flow assurance, all of which aim to improve the sustainability of the geo-energy sector. In expanding the exploitation of geopolymer, Madirisha is working on its applications in construction, gas storage (H2, CO2, and CH4), water and gas treatment, electronics, fertilizers, and catalysis, showcasing his commitment to reducing the environmental impact of traditional practices. Furthermore, Madirisha’s research interest also lies in renewable energy (syngas and biogas) and the innovative use of biochar, integrating these elements seamlessly into his research to tackle climate change challenges. His efforts are crucial in the fight against climate change, promoting energy efficiency, emission reduction, and the advancement of the circular economy.
