Prof. Dr. Songdong Shen is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Biology and Basic Medical Sciences at Soochow University. He is currently the executive director and deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Algae Society. He earned his BS in Cell Biology from Lanzhou University (1990), his MSc in Botany from the Northwest Plateau Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (1997) and his PhD in Aquaculture from the Qingdao Ocean University (now known as Ocean University of China) in 2000. His research focuses on algal cell development and molecular cell biology, including the mechanism of algal cell development, the interaction between algae and the environment and the comprehensive utilization of algae. He has presided over and participated in several National Natural Science Foundation research projects and published more than 100 papers. He won the second prize in the State Oceanic Administration Achievement Award, the third prize in the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Award for Natural Sciences and the second prize in the Qingdao Science and Technology Award for Natural Sciences.
