Dr. Mario Tumbarello graduated cum laude in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Roma. He is a full professor of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medical Biotechnologies, University of Siena. He is also the head of Infectious Diseases Clinic, AOUS Policlinico Le Scotte, Siena, Italy. For many years, he has been an infectious disease consultant, first at the A. Gemelli Hospital in Rome and now at the Le Scotte Hospital in Siena. Professor of Infectious Diseases in the course of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Siena. Professor of Infectious Diseases in the post-graduate schools of the University of Siena and of the Catholic University of Sacred Heart. Supervisor of the thesis for students in Medicine and Surgery and for specialists in Infectious Diseases. Author of more than 200 papers cited in PubMed, the majority of them on epidemiology and clinical aspects of healthcare-associated infections caused by antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and fungi. He is a research project manager of grants on hospital infections and antibiotic resistance funded by the Italian Ministry of University and the Catholic University of Sacred Heart and participated in research projects funded by the Italian Ministry of Health, AIFA, and Italian Institute of Health. Mario directs research groups on multidrug-resistant infections, participates in board for the management of clinical trials and has experience in clinical trials in accordance with Good Clinical Practice.

Dr. Marco Falcone is an Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases, Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, University of Pisa in Italy. His research focuses on the clinical and molecular epidemiology of infections with multi-drug resistant (MDR) organisms, with the intent of translation of knowledge into optimal prevention and treatment of these infections. He has participated as principal investigator in national and international clinical studies on anti-infective agents, and has published several studies on endocarditis, bacteremia, pneumonia, bone and joint infections and other areas of interest in Infectious Diseases. He is the author of original articles published in leading journals of infectious diseases and clinical medicine including Annals of Internal Medicine, JAMA, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Emerging Infectious Diseases and many others. He is co-author of the guidelines endorsed by the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) on the management of multidrug resistant Gram-negative bacteria in hospitalized patients. Member of the board of the Italian Society of Infectious Diseases (SIMIT). Chair of the board of the ESCMID study group for infections in the elderly (ESGIE). He has been invited to speak in several National and International conferences and congresses. He serves as Associate Professor in Infectious Diseases at Faculty of Medicine of the University Pisa (Italy).

Dr. Daniela Massi, MD, PhD, is Professor of Pathology at the University of Florence Medical School, Italy and currently serves as Director of the Division of Histopathology and Molecular Diagnostics, Careggi University Hospital, Florence, Italy. Trained in dermatopathology at the Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia (PA), she was a Post-Doctoral Research fellowship from the American-Italian Cancer Foundation and obtained the ICDP-UEMS International Board Certification in Dermatopathology. Her internationally recognized contribution to dermatopathology is witnessed by several positions in scientific societies, journals or institutions, including the Executive Committee of the International Society of Dermatopathology (member 1997–2003), Dermatopathology Working Group of the European Society of Pathology (Chair 2007–2011), the Melanoma Pathology Group – European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) (Chair 2017–today), President Elect Italian Melanoma Intergroup (IMI) for the years 2026–2028. She was Editor-in-Chief of the Virchows Archiv – The European Journal Pathology for a 6-year term (2017–2022). Dr. Daniela Massi, with a unique clinical expertise in melanoma pathology, has authored more than 400 publications on the identification of tissue prognostic and biomarkers and the pharmacological modulation of the tumor microenvironment in melanoma patients.

Dr. Gian Maria Rossolini is a Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at the Universities of Florence and Siena, and director of the Clinical Microbiology, Virology, and Serology Unit of Florence Careggi University Hospital. He has served as Chairman of the Department of Molecular Biology and as Dean of the Medical Faculty at the University of Siena. His main research interests are in the field of antimicrobial agents and microbial drug resistance. He has served as an Editor for Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy and is a member of the Editorial Board of several international journals focused on Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. He has also acted as a reviewer/advisor on behalf of funding agencies and academic institutions for the selection of research grants and academic professorships.
Dr. Maria Grazia Cusi is a Full Professor in Microbiology and Virology at the University of Siena, Director of the Infectious Diseases Specialty School of Medicine at the University of Siena (2010–2015) and Chairman of the Committee of the Master School in Medical Biotechnologies at the University of Siena (2014–2018). Since 2015, she has been the Microbiology and Virology Laboratory Director at the “S. Maria delle Scotte” Hospital of Siena. She has 30 years of experience in research on viral vaccines and studies on pathogenesis of phleboviruses. Moreover, she has dedicated herself to immunotherapy and the prevention of some human tumors in preclinical trials. Notably, prof. Cusi has authored more than 180 manuscripts and 7 patents.
Dr. Fabrizio Bruschi was born in Pisa in 1954. He graduated in 1979 in Medicine, University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, score: 110/110 cum laude; Hematology Specialization, University of Pisa, Italy, score: 70/70 cum laude. He obtained the Certificat d'Etudes Superieures in Immunologie et Pathologie Parasitaires at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, France. Researcher since 1984, confirmed since 1987, then Associate Professor in General Pathology, Medical Faculty, University of Perugia, Italy (1992-1997), then University of Pisa, Italy until 2002 when he has obtained the position of Professor of Parasitology in the Faculty of Medicine of the same University. Since then, he has also been in charge of the Parasitology Sector of University Microbiology Laboratory of the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Pisana. The interests of Prof. F. Bruschi are represented mainly by host–parasite relations in a model of helminthic infection such as trichinellosis of which different aspects, both experimental and clinical, have been studied. Prof. Bruschi has been coordinator of different research projects both at local and at national (MURST and Ministry of Health) levels on trichinellosis. He participated on the Committee of the International Commission on trichinellosis for the compilation of the guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of human trichinellosis, as well as in the preparation of the guidelines for animal and human serology.

Dr. Lorenzo Zammarchi graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 2006 at the University of Florence with the highest grades and praise. He performs didactic, research and clinical activities in the field of Infectious and Tropical Diseases with a focus on international and migrant illnesses and pregnancy infectious diseases at the Regional Reference Center of the Tuscany Region for the Study and Disease Treatment Tropical and the Regional Reference Center of the Tuscany Region for Infections in Pregnancy. His main field of clinical and research activities is infectious tropical diseases, travel and migrant health and infectious diseases in pregnancy.
