Benjamin M. Liu is the Assistant Director of the
Microbiology Laboratory and the Infectious Disease Molecular Diagnostics
Laboratory of Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. He is also an Assistant
Professor of Pathology, Pediatrics and Microbiology, Immunology & Tropical
Medicine at George Washington University. After receiving his medical degree
and a Ph.D. in medical microbiology and immunology, he completed a basic
research postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Allergy and
Infectious Diseases of NIH in Bethesda, MD, where he studied viral infectious
diseases and virus–host interactions. Then, he completed clinical fellowship
training in Medical and Public Health Microbiology at the University of Utah
and ARUP Laboratories in Salt Lake City, UT. His research interests include
virus–host interactions, novel antiviral/vaccine development, and the
development and validation of novel molecular tests for laboratory-based
diagnosis of infectious diseases.
