Sung-Woo Moon currently works at the Department of Civil Engineering, at Nazarbayev University. He obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). In addition, he holds a Professional Engineer license in Civil Engineering in the U.S. Before NU, he worked at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore. His research areas of interest are divided into three geotechnical engineering topics: computational geomechanics, geotechnical and geophysical site characterization, and natural hazard assessment and mitigation.
Jong Kim is a professor from the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences, Civil, and Environmental Engineering at Nazarbayev University. He is also Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering. He has been acting as a project proposal evaluator for the National Research Foundation of Korea, the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement, the Korea Institute of Construction Technology, and the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute. He had also been acting as an advisory member for the Ministry of Security and Public Administration (South Korea); the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (South Korea); the Ministry of Environment (South Korea); FHWA (USA); Department of Transportation (Minnesota, Hawaii and Illinois) and other government agencies. His research interests are Testing and modeling the mechanical behavior of frictional/cohesive materials, Soft ground improvement, Stability analysis of slopes and foundations, Soil-structure interaction, Non-destructive testing, Pavement analysis, and design, Recycling of construction materials, and Sustainable engineering.
