Thomas Aaron Gulliver received a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Victoria, Victoria, BC, Canada, in 1989. From 1989 to 1991, he was a Defence Scientist with the Defence Research Establishment Ottawa, Ottawa, ON, Canada. He has held academic positions with Carleton University, Ottawa, and the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. He joined the University of Victoria in 1999 and is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research interests include information theory, algebraic coding theory, OFDM and MIMO systems, smart grid, underwater acoustics, and secure communications. In 2002, he became a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada and, in 2012, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.
