Author Biographies

Stacy Schwartz is a doctoral candidate in Visual Studies at The University of California, Santa Cruz. She received her B.A. in History of Art from the University of Kansas, and her M.A. in Art History and Visual Culture from San Jose State University. Her research dovetails art history, memory studies, queer theory, and critical race and ethnic studies. Stacy’s dissertation, Unsettling Authenticity: Renegotiating Contemporary Identities and Cultural Trauma in Post-Jewish Art, explores cross-cultural questions of identity formation, authenticity, and citizenship in contemporary American representation, particularly the dynamic role of cultural trauma in Black and Jewish art. Stacy served on the Digital and Accessibility Team for the Editorial Board of Refract: An Open Access Visual Studies Journal, and currently partners with Bay Area high school educators and students as a Board member for the Farkas Center for the Study of the Holocaust in Catholic Schools.
