Prof. Dr. Ana M. L. Seca is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Azores. She has a degree in Chemistry and an MS in Science and Technology of Paper and Forest Products, both obtained at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, where she also received her PhD in Chemistry in 2000. Prof. Dr. Ana M. L. Seca joined the University of the Azores in 1999 as an Assistant, progressing to Assistant Professor in 2000 and then Associate Professor in 2023. In 2023, she also obtained the Habilitation in Chemistry from the University of Beira Interior. Prof. Dr. Ana M. L. Seca's main interests concern the isolation and identification of biologically active secondary metabolites, focusing on medicinal plants. She also has a high interest in cytotoxic and anti-aging evaluations and the synthesis of natural derivative compounds.
Prof. Maria Carmo Barreto is a professor of Biochemistry at the University of Azores. She holds a B.A. in Biology, an M.A. in Biotechnology (Biochemical Engineering), and received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of the Azores in 2000. Since 2015, she has been a researcher at GBA/cE3c - Center for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Change / Azorean Biodiversity Group. Her main research interests are the biological activities of terrestrial and marine natural products in the search for pharmacological, cosmeceutical, and biotechnological applications.
