Dr. Hai Doan-Nhu began his university career at Dalat University, Viet Nam, receiving a B.Sc. in Biology in 1993. He pursued graduate studies in Denmark, earning an M.Sc. in Marine Sciences from Aarhus University and a Ph.D. in Phycology from Copenhagen University. He has worked at the Institute of Oceanography since 1994 has taken part in numerous plankton surveys and is an expert on tropical phytoplankton communities. From 2003-2008, he participated in international cruises on the R/V “Bien Dong” by “NGHIEN CUU BIEN” and RV SONNE 187 (11-23 April 2006) as part of German-Vietnam Cooperation in Marine Science (VG Project); and on the R/V FALKOR for Marine Science Collaboration between Viet Nam and the U.S.A. He was appointed a Senior Researcher and Full Professor in Hydrobiology at the Institute of Oceanography in 2013 and 2017, by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. His research expertise includes the Biology and ecology of phytoplankton with an emphasis on Haptophytes and Diatoms. Dr. Doan-Nhu is currently Chair of the Scientific Council in National Foundation of Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED).
