Prof. Alfonso Maffezzoli received his master's degree in mechanical engineering in 1987 and his Ph.D. degree in materials technology from the University of Naples in 1991, at which time he was also working as an associate researcher at the University of Washington (Seattle, USA). In 1991, he won the Young Scientist Award of the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS). In 1992, he joined the University of Salento as a lecturer and he is presently a full professor at the Department of Engineering for Innovation and the director of the PhD school of the University of Salento. He coordinates a research group of about 10 people working on the technology of polymers, composites, nanocomposites, ceramics, and biomaterials. The group's original contributions have been developed in the field of thermoplastic and thermosetting matrix composite processing and properties, photopolymerization, 3D printing, curing monitoring of thermosetting resins, rotational molding, polymer recycling, and the ultrasonic characterization of polymers. On June 2021, according to Scopus, he has an h-index equal to 57, his work having been cited more than 10.300 times.
