Author Biographies

Dr. Abubakr Siam is a Visiting Associate Professor of Forestry and the Natural Environment at the University of Jordan within the IIE-SRF program. His research interests focus on tree ecophysiology and the sustainable management of natural resources in arid lands. He is dedicated to the integration of science into diplomacy and has established academic and research partnerships between the University of Al-Fashir and various international and UN agencies. He has published more than 20 articles in scientific journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Abubakr has served as Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Natural Resources, Dean of Academic Affairs, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, Director of International Relations, and the principal of the University of Al-Fashir in North Darfur, Sudan. Dr. Abubakr served as the research team lead in North Darfur within an inter-agency inter-university project titled “Taadoud Transition to Development”, led by the Catholic Relief Services and Tufts University, USA. He has also served as a country-level consultant for the Food and Nutrition Security Resilience Program (FNS-REPRO) implemented by the FAO and Wageningen University & Research (WUR), Netherlands, in North Darfur. He has a PhD in Forestry and the Natural Environment from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. He obtained a BSc in Natural Resources (Forestry) in 1995 and MSc in Forestry (Tree Physiology) in 2001 from the University of Juba, Sudan.
