Georgina Tzanakaki is a Professor in
Public Health Microbiology, at the Department of Public Health Policy (former
NSPH), School of Public Health, University of West Attica, and Head of the
National Meningitis Reference Center. Georgina Tzanakaki graduated from the
University of London in Medical Microbiology and holds a PhD from the Medical
School of the University of Edinburgh (Department of Microbiology). Her
academic work includes teaching in the area of Public Health Microbiology at
the undergraduate and postgraduate levels both at the National and European
level. Georgina Tzanakaki is the National Contact Point at the European Center
for Disease Control (ECDC) for Meningococcal Disease, Main Supervisor of the
two-year European Postgraduate Program in Public Health Microbiology
(EUPHEM)/ECDC, member of four Scientific Societies/Fora and member of the
Management Board (Scientific Secretary at European Society for Meningococcal
Disease (EMGM), European Public Health Microbiology Society (EWGPHM), President
and Vice-President ECDC/EUPHEM Forum). Moreover, she is an Accredited reviewer
of research programs of the European Commission, and the European Society for
Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID).
