Author Biographies

Yanyamba Nsereko is a Master of Pharmacy student specialising in oncology and antimicrobial drug discovery, with research focused on developing novel therapeutic strategies against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) through investigation of methicillin-derived compounds. Combining her academic training with practical experience, she has worked as a Pharmacy Assistant at Al-Shafa Pharmacy in Beeston Hill and completed a clinical placement at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, where she gained hands-on experience in cardiology and gastroenterology wards. Passionate about pharmaceutical innovation, Yanyamba aims to contribute to advancing treatments for resistant infections and cancer through her unique blend of research expertise and clinical insight.
Amy is an honours undergraduate student completing her Master of Pharmacy degree at Newcastle University, UK. Passionate about advancing pharmaceutical sciences, she combines her academic studies with practical pharmacy and hospital work. Her research focuses on innovative approaches to combat antimicrobial resistance, particularly investigating efflux pump inhibitor-antibiotic combination therapy. Her project examines the heterologous expression of Pseudomonas aeruginosa's MexAB-OprM efflux pump in Escherichia coli and its therapeutic implications in murine models.
Fleur is a pharmacy student with a dual focus on sustainable healthcare and innovative drug development. Her research explores both the environmental impact of medicines and cutting-edge therapeutic approaches. She is currently developing mTOR peptide-based therapeutics designed to precisely target mTOR signalling in neuronal models, offering potential breakthroughs in neurological treatments. Alongside this, her sustainability work examines medication use and disposal practices to reduce ecological harm. With hands-on clinical experience across hospital (RVI, Wexham Maelor) and primary care (GP practice) settings, Fleur combines practical pharmacy skills with ambitious research goals at the intersection of environmental stewardship and therapeutic innovation.
Dr Al Musaimi is a Lecturer in the School of Pharmacy at Newcastle University and an Honorary Research Fellow at Imperial College London. His research specialises in advancing peptide synthesis, green chemistry, and cutting-edge purification methodologies. With over 45 peer-reviewed publications and four patents to his name, his innovations have driven the creation of Orthogonal Peptides, a spin-out company focused on pioneering first-in-class peptide motifs (WO2024261319A1). Dr Al Musaimi, a recipient of prestigious grants such as an EPSRC Adventurous Manufacturing Award and Imperial College London’s Deep Technology Prime, was recently named the winner of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Emerging Technologies Competition in the Change Makers category (2024). This accolade underscores his groundbreaking contributions to transformative pharmaceutical technologies. Additionally, he was honoured as a winner in the Unsung Heroes - Advancement of Knowledge category by C-DICE, the Centre for Postdoctoral Development in Infrastructure, Cities, and Energy.
